Do a Charity Skydive in aid of: The Children's Leukaemia Research Project

Registered Charity Number: 8973

The Children's Leukaemia Research Project (CLRP) Committee is comprised of a group of parents and medical staff working together to raise funding for research and finding a cure for childhood leukaemia. These children are being treated for this potentially fatal disease at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children (OLHSC) in Dublin.

CLRP has been providing significant funding for research into childhood leukaemia over many years. This has furthered our understanding of the biology of childhood leukaemia and has allowed the development of new and more effective treatments, this needs to be increased in order to achieve our ultimate goal of prevention or cure for all children with leukaemia.

Acute leukaemia is the most common form of cancer seen in children. Every year approximately 30 children in Ireland are diagnosed. Over the past 40 years, significant progress has been made in the treatment and has led to an improvement in the cure rate from under 15% in the 1960s to more than 65% at present. This was made possible by research which has led to the development of new drugs and treatment protocols. Over 100 children are currently on active treatment for leukaemia at OLHSC.
